Adventure
Splurge on:
Maldives-- The most perfect beaches. Combines with any of the Middle East airlines and you can add on one of these cities
-
-
Cheval Blanc is modern, trendy and has a blocky, French chic design. It very much is the place to be seen, one might say St Tropez of the Maldives. Considered one of the very best islands in the Maldives, it has a very private and very exclusive feel. The service is impeccable and there are 5 restaurants and 3 bars for guests to explore on the island with a full range of activities and excursions on offer. The hotel seaplane is around a 40 minute transfer time. No such thing as a bad room— all have great views and tons of space
-
-
Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa
-
In Malí, so you don't need to take a seaplane to get here. Good place to start or end and can combo with the other four season property
-
-
Four Seasons Resort Maldives At Landaa Giraavaru
-
On its own island, so you need to take a seaplane. Really special and well run. Only rave reviews.
-
-
-
Bigger, fancier, and has a little bit more of a vibe. For those who want to fly and flop, but don’t want to get bored.

Culture Lovers
Splurge on:
Japan--
-
-
People who love this hotel REALLY LOVE this hotel. The end all be all spurge city vacation. In the middle of Tokyo but feels completely zen. Occupies the top six floors of a business tower in Tokyo. The design of the hotel is a perfect combination of Japanese ryokan design and Aman minimalism. They have a cafe on the ground floor in “Otemachi Forest” which they created at the base of the hotel to give it a more welcoming feeling.
-
-
HOTEL THE MITSUI KYOTO, a Luxury Collection Hotel
-
Take a train down to Kyoto— lovely and fast. It’s a new hotel, and pleases even the pickiest travelers. Kyoto is smaller than Tokyo but great for the culture people.
-
-
-
Benesse House is on Naoshima Island, also known as the art island. Not easy to get to, but it’s incredible outdoor exhibit space similar to Storm King. The installations are throughout the island including one of Yaoui Kusama's pumpkins. The rooms are basic, but staying on the art island is mainly about experiencing the unique destination. Books out well ahead of time.

Road-tripping the national parks-- from Moab (Sorrel River Ranch) to Zion (Zion Mountain Ranch) to Sedona (L'Auberge)
-
Sorrel River Ranch Resort and Spa
-
It’s a step down in pricing and the rooms are not anything special, but it's all about the beautiful setting in Moab. Difficult to get to – a long drive from no matter what airport. It’s 25 minutes outside the town, and you can also do this destination in combination with Arches national park, canyons, and Zion. There’s lots of activities like a petting zoo, horseback riding, and off-roading, but it’s still ranch light. You’ll want a minimum of 4-5 nights here.
-
The Hoodoo Moab is a new hotel that's part of the Hilton Curio Collection in the town of Moab.
-
-
-
-
Sister property of sorrel river ranch with a very similar vibe. On edge of an amazing national park— and at a less busy entrance. Such a beautiful property.
-
-
-
End in Arizona and near Phoenix where you can get an easy flight home. Rooms are right up against a creek. A little bit more expensive but still not a splurge.

Not in the old town, but still very close and right near all the best museums. Very young, cool, & fresh with a more contemporary design.
-
-
Párisi Udvar Hotel Budapest (part of Hyatt)
-
Budapest is like the less discovered Prague— it’s an incredible city full of great food, culture, and museums. Despite it’s classic design, the hotel still feels really fresh. Step up in pricing, so good to put at the end, as the splurge of the save.
-
Splurge on:
Chile-- start in Atacama Desert and Torres del Paine

It’s got a cool lobby scene, and is walking distance into town. Pool view. Incredible activities including salt flats and hiking in the Mountains. The food and spa are both amazing. Rooms are simple but have beautiful views.

This property is perfect for everyone. The rooms are straightforward and contemporary, and they have many different room categories. Right on the edge of Torres del paine national park. Offers romance and adventure.

Great place to end an adventurous trip for some relaxation. Right outside Santiago, Vik has an amazing vineyard, winery, and food. The rooms have lots of art in them as well.

This is one of the most exquisitely designed hotels by Bill Bensely. The rooms feel like you’re in the hole of a turn of the century explorer. It’s extremely romantic and otherworldly. It’s on a cliff in the mountains, and so charming. Great cultural engagement activities and food experiences. Ticks every honeymoon box.

Owned by Chris Burch, this property is the definition of barefoot luxury. It’s a quiet island with no nightlife, but it is a fantastic surf spot, a popular honeymoon destination, and many opportunities to engage with the local population. Fly here from Bali. Gives people the experience they’re expecting of Bali but without the crowds. Pretty much the only hotel on Sumaba.
-
-
-
This property is on a very isolated and beautiful island but with so many activities– – hiking, kayaking, yoga, snorkeling, diving. They also have an incredible Spa experience. It’s best easily accessed from Singapore, so you can add the city experience onto it.
-
Bali--
-
Hotel Indigo Bali Seminyak Beach, An IHG Hotel
-
For somebody who wants to go out and have a vibe— nightlife and restaurant scene. Lovely beach and town. In a great location where you can walk most places and right on the beach. Similar to a less expensive Kimpton.
-
-
-
Off the beaten path, in a quieter area, so great for honeymooners. Under the Hyatt brand. Nice straightforward design. Good to combine with Seminyak for a balance of party and seclusion.
-
-
seclusion Tugu Lombok
-
Very traditional, not 5 star but still lovely. Island next to Bali on the east. Good for divers as it’s next to the Gili Islands. More isolated. Quiet, peaceful, and lovely.
